William John McQueen (known as Jack) died peacefully on 10 July 2008 on the eve of his 85 birthday. He was a retired gentleman and lived in Corby. He was born in Lindesayville cottages in Dungannon, Northern Ireland on 11th July 1923 to William and Margaret McQueen. He had 4 brothers, Samuel, Herbert, Walter and Robert. He was brought up in a happy home where there wasn't much money but more than enough love from his Granny and Grandad Stranaghan (his mother's parents) and the many relatives who lived near by. One of his favourite jobs was when he worked for the dairy. He didn't so much like the job but he liked the part of the job where he had to look after the horse after his rounds. He lived in the cottage until he was 11 when his father got a job away for Lindesayville. The family lived with a farmer and his wife and family and became firm friends with them all, particularly Maggie, who he kept in touch with and spoke to only a few weeks ago. He then moved to a brand new house in Newmills with his parents and brothers.
When old enough he joined the RAF and when demobbed moved to Corby where he met and married Annie Rhinds. They had four children, Martha, Jimmy, Rita and Louise. Daughter in law Grace and sons in law Tommy and Allan. Grandchildren, Linsey, Kirsty, Andrew, Stuart, Robert, Max, Alexander, Robert and Philip. Great-grandchildren, Jordan McQueen, Harvey, Lewis and Ryan Carson and two twin grandsons still to be born.
In 1996 he went back to Ireland to visit the places he knew when he was growing up. He had a wonderful time seeing all of his old friends and family and even got himself interviewed for the Tyrone Courier as he went to school with the then editor of the paper and became a wee bit of a celebrity.
He had a hip replacement operation last year and recovered really well, becoming the independent chap we all knew and loved. Only from the begining of this year did we notice that all was not quite well with Jack and in the last few months had been in and out of hospital with various ailments.
Jack sadly died after a short illness, he will be sorely missed by all his family. He has now been reunited with his beloved wife Annie who died in 1992. Sleep peacefully now dad. Love from all your beloved family. xxxx
Beautiful poem
They are not dead,
Who leave us this great heritage of remembering joy.
They still live in our hearts,
In the happiness we knew, in the dreams we shared.
They still breathe,
In the lingering fragrance, windblown, from their favourite flowers.
They still smile in the moonlight’s silver,
And laugh in the sunlight’s sparking gold.
They still speak in the echoes of the words we’ve heard them say again and again.
They still move,
In the rhythm of waving grasses, in the dance of the tossing branches.
They are not dead;
Their memory is warm in our hearts, comfort in our sorrow.
They are not apart from us, but part of us,
For love is eternal,
And those we love shall be with us throughout all eternity
We missed you so much at Christmas and at New Year. Robert turned 18. You would be so proud of him, he has a wicked sense of humour and there are times when I see your smile on his face and his eyes are the same colour as yours. I never noticed these things while you were still here with us, but they tell me you are not gone completely from our lives. We still love you and miss you both, you are never forgotten.
With all our love, always. Louise, Allan, Robert & Philip

As Christmas time approaches
We miss you more and more
Memories of past Yule times
We always will adore
We still hang the decorations
Put the lights upon the tree
We hang the cards upon the wall
This one's for you, you see
Even though you are not here
You're always in our hearts
So we remember you this Christmas
While we're temporarily apart.

Not spoken to you for a while, it doesn't mean
we don't think about you every day.
We love you and miss you, but we know
that you are with the love of your life,so we
know that you are happy.
Come see us sometimes, we miss you.
